Texas Laws and Tint Percentages Liberty Hill, TX

Picture
Texas currently follows a set of rules and regulations that the legislature passed in 2009 regarding window tints and films for automotive use. Some HOAs and local building codes can also have stipulations to follow when installing this world-class product.

Most rules regarding window tints and films involve the VLT rating, which stands for “visible light transmission.” You’ll also see placement, reflectivity, and color requirements to follow for some drivers.

VLT represents how much available light can come through the tinted window. This guide covers the information you’ll need to know if you’re looking at this aftermarket upgrade.

Current VLT Rules and Regulations in Texas
Texas applies the VLT rules and regulations to all vehicles. Some states separate cars from trucks or SUVs, so you’ll need to be aware of those changes if you travel outside the state.

These are the current regulations that professional installers in Texas must follow.

  • Windshields are permitted to have a VLT 25 product installed above the AS-1 line or the top five inches of the glass.
  • The front side windows (driver and passenger) can have a maximum VLT 25 rating.
  • The back side windows in the state can have tints and films installed of any darkness rating.
  • Vehicles with dual side mirrors can have any tint installed on the rear window. Without the mirrors, a VLT 25 maximum is required.

Texas doesn’t permit amber, blue, or red window tints on vehicles. Your installer must place a sticker that indicates their work complies with these rules. When you work with our team, we certify that you’ll have a legal installation for our state.
